A two-time recipient of the US Department of State Senior Fulbright Award, Prof. Hasan has also received awards like the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Purdue University and the Educator’s Environmental Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. With a 35-year teaching career, he developed and taught four waste management courses, supervised 16 graduate students, published around 50 papers, and presented research globally. Prof. Hasan is a Senior Fellow of the Geological Society of America and a member of prestigious organizations, residing in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Dr. Henrique Pacini is an economist at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva, where he works on trade and circular economy issues. He has a degree in economics from the University of São Paulo, a Masters in European Studies from Hochschule Bremen, Germany, and a Ph.D in Energy Technology from KTH, Sweden. He recently completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University, where he examined the commercial dynamics of secondary materials in world trade, and co-chaired Harvard’s first Circular Economy Symposium. Dr. Pacini published over 30 articles on environment, trade and development issues, and is passionate about photography, an art which he often uses in conjunction with his work.

Addressing Institutional Challenges and Gaps: A Strategic Dialogue for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Founder and Director of Best Practices Foundation, India
Dr Sangeetha Purushothaman has a Ph.D. in Urban planning and master's degrees in economics and urban policy. She has over 25 years of experience in research and teaching in the USA and India. As Founder-Director, of Best Practices Foundation (BPF), she has been involved in the documentation, dissemination, innovation, and evaluation of best practices, she has led cutting-edge action research in the fields of gender, livelihoods, energy, development, and governance and been acknowledged for this through an award.
Over the last two decades, Sangeetha has been involved in multiple evaluations both national and international in partnership with organizations like SSDS, commissioned by DFID, Ford Foundation, HIVOS, CARE, USAID, and GRET. These evaluations have assessed the impact in multiple areas and initiatives including building civil society, gender, sexuality, livelihoods, energy, microfinance, nutrition, and health. This included both quantitative and qualitative impact assessments.
She worked on a project with the Fair Climate network on building the capacity of their partner NGO staff, carbon credits, and livelihoods. She has evaluated SSP’s work, particularly looking at energy products marketed by Sakhi Retail, examining livelihoods, credit linkages, and women’s empowerment-related issues.
She is the author of several books on development, environment, and gender including The Empowerment of Women in India: Grassroots Women’s Networks and the State published by Sage, and two books specifically on international best practices on women and community development. She has written articles, documents, and reports for international organizations based on primary and secondary research focused on best practices on gender, the environment, energy, the peri-urban interface, governance, community development, and participation. She has led teams of scientists, management professionals, and civil society on new innovations for livelihoods for the poor. She produced and disseminated the first book in India on the peri-urban interface and held state, national, and district launches of the book to raise awareness among a range of stakeholders, particularly the government. Additionally, she has conducted in-depth longitudinal studies on natural resource management, gender, livelihoods, and microfinance.
As founder-director of the Best Practices Foundation, she has coordinated multi-institutional, international, and local projects. In this capacity, she has overseen the production of several books, articles, reports, evaluations, annexes for main reports, three films, and communication products for projects, workshops, and events. As a member of international grassroots networks from 1989 onwards, GROOTS International and later on the Huairou Commission (HC); she has been involved in several global campaigns and programs.

Dr. Haribandhu Panda mentors social enterprises in Odisha, and is committed to sustainable development of communities in the state. He is the Executive Trustee of Harsha Trust and co-founder of Klorofeel Foundation. Prof. Panda is among the early faculty at Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Anand, where he saw through the growth of an inspired institution. After IRMA, Dr Haribandhu Panda returned to Odisha. He has been Vice Chancellor at Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), with over 35 years of national and international experience in academics and industry.
Prior to IRMA, Prof Panda has been with South East Asia Technology Co., Ltd., Bangkok; National Thermal Power Corporation, Ltd, Delhi; and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok. He is actively associated with a number of Civil Society Organisations in Odisha and outside. His education includes Ph.D. in Management of Technology and Masters of Engineering in Energy Technology from the AIT, Bangkok; MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi; and Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical from NIT, Rourkela. His teaching, research and consulting interests are in the areas of Strategic Management, Management of Technology, Energy Management and Institution Design and Development. Presently he is deeply involved in the areas of sustainable livelihood security of underprivileged people and improving quality of school education.

Dr. Aurobindo Behera holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Utkal University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Policy and Project Planning from the Institute of Social Studies, Netherlands. Having commenced his career in the Indian Economic Service and later transitioning to the Indian Administrative Service, Dr. Behera has held various significant roles.
His administrative journey includes positions such as Sub-Collector, Additional District Magistrate, and Collector in Phulbani, Ganjam, and Kandhamal districts. Furthermore, he has contributed as the Director of Rural Development and Social Welfare, Additional Secretary, and Secretary to the Chief Minister of Odisha. Dr. Behera has also served as Secretary in diverse departments, including SC/ST Development, Textile and Handloom, Forest and Environment, Disaster Management Authority, and Water Resources. Notably, he assumed the responsibility of Chairman and Managing Director of Industrial Development Corporation and later retired as a Member of the Board of Revenue.
Presently, Dr. Behera is channelling his expertise and energy towards civil society initiatives, focusing on the transformation of education, Tribal Development, Women Empowerment, and Environment Protection. His involvement extends to key roles such as association with the Odisha Environment Congress, serving as the President of Bhubaneswar Music Circle, and leading as the President, Citizens for Good Governance. Additionally, he holds the esteemed position of State President for Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti.

Charting the Path Forward: Strategic and Partnerships for Accelerating SDG Implementation
Director, Centre for Good Governance, GAA, Odisha
With over two and a half decades of professional experience in development and humanitarian aid, Dr. Shashank Grahacharya has held leadership roles with both government and UN agencies across Asia and Africa. His responsibilities encompassed the overall program management of diverse, multi-sector, multi-stakeholder, and multi-year initiatives. These large and intricate programs covered areas such as Food and Nutrition, Livelihood, Health, WASH, Education, Rural Marketing, and Women Empowerment.
Throughout his career, Dr. Grahacharya actively participated in research, evaluation, and documentation initiatives, significantly contributing to policy analysis. Presently, he serves as the Director at the Centre for Good Governance, Odisha, based at the Gopabandhu Academy of Administration.
Mentor and Co-Founder, CYSD, Odisha
Shri Jagadananda demitted the office as the State Information Commissioner, Odisha to advance the Right to Information (RTI) agenda in the State in August 2013 and was a Member of the State Planning Board of Odisha, following his active campaigning for people-centric decentralized planning. Presently, he is a Member of the Standing Committee (CSOs) at the NITI Aayog on Institutionalizing Partnership between Civil Society and the Government. As the Convenor of Odisha Development Initiative, he facilitated organization of Odisha Development Conclave, a multi stakeholder platform. He has held offices as Chairperson, Voluntary Action Network India (VANI), the largest national network of social development agencies in India, Chair of Credibility Alliance, a national forum for promotion of accountability norms for Civil Society Organizations and the Chair of Sa-Dhan, a national network of Community Development Micro Finance Institutions with membership spread across the country. He was offered a senior visiting fellowship at CIVICUS-World Alliance for Citizen Participation, and worked on the issues of legitimacy, transparency and accountability within civil society at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. His publication ‘Civil Society Legitimacy and Accountability’ is widely available in French, Spanish, Arabic and English languages. His other publications include “Organization Behaviour” a framework for Non-Governmental Development Organisations and an Organisation Self-Assessment tool for NGOs’ (OSANGO).
